WECB.fm's Honorary Roomies

By Lily Suckow Ziemer

Every Friday from 9 to 10 pm, Sienna Leone (she/her), River Caraballo (any pronouns), and Penelope Patsis (she/her) invite you into their late night hangouts, listening to music and talking about “anything under the sun.” Although none of them are roommates, they tend to congregate in Penelope’s dorm room, creating what Sienna describes as a found family dynamic. The show naturally sprung out of this, creating an intimate feel to “Honorary Roomies.”

Each episode has a theme, ranging anywhere from sleepover jams to The Twilight Zone. No particular genre rules the show, with each of the DJs integrating their own eclectic music taste into every episode. River likes a variety of artists, from British pop icon Elton John to Latin trap and reggaeton star Bad Bunny, and Sienna’s folk-pop songs easily stick out among the set list. You might even get a surprise at the end of an episode with Eric Cartman’s (of South Park fame) cover of “Pokerface.”

Between songs, Penelope says they like to talk about their own lives, playing into the personal feel of the show. While they always tie it back to the theme, they don’t shy away from making jokes and going off on tangents.
