New Bedford Rapper releases his debut mixtape

By Diogo Fernandes Tavares

Local rapper Saint released his debut seven track mixtape “Yannick” last Friday.

His debut mixtape is a self-titled — Yannick is the rapper’s first name — but the connection does not stop there. “It's a really personal album. Every first letter of the tracks spells out my name.”

“It’s meant to be an introduction, I want people to get comfortable with my craft while working on my craft,” Saint said. “I wanted people to know I have been in love with making music as a younglin by listening to this project.”

Every song has a variation in sound. The intro track “You Feeling” is a trap-pop to introduce the listener to how the New Bedford rapper is feeling at the moment- he’s feeling ready to conquer the rap world . In his own words,  “Neek Needs Focus (Skit)” has the rapper communicating his reasoning for creating music and his confidence that can be contagious. The outro, “Kickin It”, is a dancehall-like love song. The New Bedford rapper wants the mixtape to put a stamp in his hometown by inspiring other local musicians  to realize their potential while also finding his own striving as an artist.

“The New Bedford scene is popping, it's something that needs exploring,” the rapper said.  He envisioned New Bedford as a golden goose with its undiscovered musicians. “I know a lot of people out here who would be big, but they don't know their own potential,” Saint said, “I feel like it's my job to help people find and develop their potential.”

The mixtape is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud
