Visceral Connections: A “Viscus” Review

While gearing up to release deluxe versions of their respective albums, it’s no surprise that Oklou and FKA Twigs inevitably joined forces. On the ambient-electronic track with synths that swell as the song advances, both artists question if the light at the end of the tunnel is enough to stop a maelstrom within yourself. With hopeful lyrics like “I wanna find a place I feel alive/ The beating of my heart/ Is sure a place to start/Instead of me choking up and running,” neither come to a definite conclusion, but are certain where to begin. “Viscus” is the first in a slew of bonus tracks, and Oklou proves that she hasn’t departed from the lush and atmospheric sound of February’s choke enough, while FKA proves that she fits right in. Though, only as a sampler of the deluxe, one can’t help but wonder if the additional songs will hit the viscus like the original tracklist.
