Sidney Gish greeted me backstage in the Paramount theater, perched alone on a chair in a dressing room that dwarfed her. On and off stage, she is a self-contained unit of musical energy, a one-woman band with a loop pedal and an ear for the perfect layered sound.
Jo & The Average, a band composed of Emerson and Berklee students, has blossomed into the local scene with a slate of performances recently, including an opening set (happening tomorrow, April 6!) for Sidney Gish, hosted by WECB Live!.
Raina tells me that “For five people to be so on and so excited, and understand the music, and have that connection as friends where we hang out all the time, it’s just a really special thing. They’re all really, really beautiful people.”
Boston-based artist Thetamancer (he/him) released his new EP, “The Phage,” on March 14th. With creating a persona that has multiple layers to the character, “The Phage,” the artist opens up about vulnerability in music, creative processes, and the connection between fashion and music.
Singer-songwriter and Emersonian JOBIE (she/they) came through with another soft expression of love in her new single “All For One.” The song’s melancholy sounds fit perfectly in their wistful dream of a lover they once had.
On Thursday, March 17, WECB Live! hosted Last Violets, Frogger, Proxy War, and Loose Joints in the SPC.
Everyone who entered the warm, wood-paneled room was greeted like an old friend; most of them were. Quinlan let us know this was the first show they’d put on that was open to the public since COVID first started.
