Sidney Gish greeted me backstage in the Paramount theater, perched alone on a chair in a dressing room that dwarfed her. On and off stage, she is a self-contained unit of musical energy, a one-woman band with a loop pedal and an ear for the perfect layered sound.
Jo & The Average, a band composed of Emerson and Berklee students, has blossomed into the local scene with a slate of performances recently, including an opening set (happening tomorrow, April 6!) for Sidney Gish, hosted by WECB Live!.
Raina tells me that “For five people to be so on and so excited, and understand the music, and have that connection as friends where we hang out all the time, it’s just a really special thing. They’re all really, really beautiful people.”

Boston-based artist Thetamancer (he/him) released his new EP, “The Phage,” on March 14th. With creating a persona that has multiple layers to the character, “The Phage,” the artist opens up about vulnerability in music, creative processes, and the connection between fashion and music.
The cowgirl in question is one Leah Lavigne (she/her), frontwoman of the band Ok Cowgirl. The four-piece band—consisting of vocalist and guitarist Lavigne, drummer Matt Birkenholz (he/him), guitarist Jake Sabinsky (he/him) and bassist John Miller (he/him)—serves as the indie rock vessel for Lavigne’s musical self-discovery.
Robin-Sailor Zander (she/her) plays a series of themed playlists, and switches off every other week to a more podcast-like style where she tells personal stories from her experiences growing up around the music industry…
Every inch of the concrete walls are covered in doodles, illustrating the past few years of the Tourist Trap’s contribution to the Boston underground music scene. David Staats, guitarist of My Green Bananas, has just scribbled the band’s place onto the wall.
